The Earth rolling under an astronaut at 27,743KPH looks awesome
I've never seen anything like this: The Earth captured in time lapse by an astronaut at the International Space Station, cruising at 17,239 miles per hour—that's 7.7 kilometers per second, or 4.7 miles per second. The time lapse video was taken by NASA astronaut and Oregon State University alum Don Pettit, while he was at the ISS.

OSU names Kasten interim head of Alumni Association
Christi Kasten has been named interim executive director of the Oregon State University Alumni Association and director of the OSU Office of Alumni Relations.

Agricultural state of emergency declared
Commissioner Bill Waddle said that the lily bulb growers had expected five inches of rain in late spring. Instead, they got 25 inches. He said it was the third worst year in the last 27. Linda White, Oregon State University commercial horticulturist for Coos and Curry County prepared a loss assessment report for Curry County in which she estimated a loss of 33.3 percent of the cranberry crop and 35 percent of hay.

Viewing poisons at our national parks
Staci Simonich, an associate professor in environmental and molecular toxicology at Oregon State University, conducted the tests for SOCs in her lab.

County seed growers seek refuge in wheat

Most other grass seed growers in the Northern Willamette Valley have also gotten out, according to Nicole Anderson, a grass seed specialist with the Oregon State University Extension Service. Grass seed is a specialty crop that depends on construction or expansion of houses, golf courses, cattle operations, parks and ballfields. If consumers don't buy as many houses, contractors do less lawn seeding. If they can't afford as many golf outings, clubs cut back on turf seeding. If they buy less milk and beef, ranchers do less pasture seeding. By the same token, if governments run low on funds, they let parks and ballfields go.

The Sunday Profile: Than Thi Nguyen
All but Linh, the eldest, graduated from college (four from Oregon State University, one from Western Oregon University). Eric's grades at OSU were so good, his mom proudly relates, that he had the promise of a job before he even finished his coursework. The siblings now own businesses or work as computer professionals in Houston, Southern California and Seattle.

It's raining and it's growing

The Oregon Rain Garden Guide is produced by Oregon Sea Grant at OSU. An increasing number of Oregonians are disconnecting downspouts, building rain collection barrels and planting rain gardens to harvest water from their businesses, schools and front yards, according to co-author Robert Emanuel, an Oregon Sea Grant Extension specialist.

How are items chosen for Beaver Eclips?
Beaver Eclips is a free service of the OSU Alumni Association. Its main purpose is to provide alumni and friends of OSU with a sense of how Oregon State has been portrayed in the news media over the past week. Items are selected by the staff of the Oregon Stater and by other OSUAA employees. Inclusion of an item in Eclips means only that we think it's interesting and/or important, and does not constitute an endorsement of its point of view or its journalistic accuracy.
