ABOUT CLAA Keeping Chicana/o Latina/o Alumni Connected
Chicana/o and Latina/o alumni are members of one of the most diverse, talented and involved OSU affinity groups. CLAA is an extension to the broader alumni association. Our board meets monthly and the general membership meets annually on campus for the reunion+gala.
Our alumni are teachers, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, engineers, and social workers. They are employed in the government, private and non-profit sector. We are glad you've found us! Let's get started...
How can I help?
Get Involved. CLAA participate in the life of the university. Here are 10 ideas to get you going:
- Join the OSUAA and request to join our affinity group
- Become a member of our Facebook page and introduce yourself on the wall; let all your OSU peers know
- Participate in the board meetings and volunteer on a working committee
- Participate in the alumni panel at Conexiones, and volunteer at START Bilingüe
- Attend and celebrate with new graduates and their families at Si Se Pudo Graduation coordinated through Casa Latina/o de OSU every June
- Support OSU Chicana/o and Latina/o student groups in their on-campus activities throughout the year
- Provide mentorship and support for undergraduate and graduate Chicano/Latino students
- Support efforts in raising funds for the Dr. Manuel Pacheco Book Scholarship
- Visit your local junior high and high school and talk to the Chicano/Latino students and their parents about your experience at OSU
- RSVP for the Annual Reunion and come prepared to have a great time
How the Leadership Board Runs. The CLAA is governed by a 6-member Board of Directors. The Executive Committee itself is elected by the board, and board members are solicited from the active-membership. All board meetings are open to alumni. The Board President works collaboratively with the board and reports to the OSU Alumni Association, and engages on a monthly conference call with university leadership.
Serve on the Board or Committees. Providing leadership on the board of directors is an honor and privilege, and a great responsibility. The committees include: reunion, scholarship, fundraising, and membership. Each director serves as Chair and reports back to the board.

Help Raise Funds for OSU Chicano/Latino Alumni Association One of our first initiatives was launching the Dr. Manuel Pacheco Book Scholarship for undergraduate and graduate Chicano/Latino students in early-2004. Since then, we have proudly awarded 6 scholarships (see below for the '09-'10 important dates and list of past-recipients) to high achieving student-leaders.
More humbling, at the 2008 Reunion+Gala, Dr. Joseph Orosco and several friends of CLAA kicked off the Dr. Manuel Pacheco Endowment with the target goal of $50,000. All gifts to the endowment are tax-deductible.
